The China Wine Challenge was newly set up in 2010 as an independent wine competition, showing the wine world that China is a vibrant wine market to be taken seriously.
With the appointment of Steven Spurrier as Chairman and a solid partnership developed with the Institute of Masters of Wine, the China Wine Challenge would create a platform for developing local Chinese wine tasters into serious wine judges. In future years we propose to provide a Chinese wine judge with a scholarship to attend the Institute of Masters of Wine summer school in Australia.
It is our goal to see a cross section of the very best wines, wine regions and wine styles available to the Chinese consumer. The results will also give the Chinese consumer a guide in selecting wines for themselves which are judged to be at the pinnacle of wine quality, and will assist importers, wine producers and the trade in general to present these wines to the market. The competition will be a unique forum for Chinese domestic wines to be judged alongside the top international offerings.
Hurun Report (the leading luxury consumer media group in China) is the Official Media Partner of the China Wine Challenge. In September 2012 they will again prepare a 52 page Wine Supplement dedicated to the China Wine Challenge.
